Salvador Dalí (1904–1989) was the leading figure of Surrealism, known for his dreamlike images and his eccentricity. His most famous works include *The Persistence of Memory* with its melting clocks. He founded the Dalí Theater-Museum in Figueres, Spain. His unique style fused Renaissance technical precision with images of the unconscious influenced by Freud.
